We believe our team at Acorns is what helps make our pre-school such a happy, welcoming and fun filled environment.
Our friendly, professional staff have a genuine passion for caring for children. They are committed to providing care of an excellent standard and to making all children feel special, supported and valued.
The staff team have a wide variety of skills and experiences and are qualified to a high standard. To ensure quality provision is always maintained the setting operates a policy of continuous professional development.
We operate a key person system to support children’s transition and build relationships between parents and setting. Providing a consistent key person promotes happy and confident children who will settle comfortably in their new environment.
Sharon – Deputy Manager & SENCO
Sharon took on the role of Deputy Manager from August 2019, assisting Val in the day to day running of the setting. She continues in her role as SENCO.
Originally from the Leeds area, Sharon and her family moved to the Masham area 6 years ago, and we first got to know her as her younger daughter joined Acorns for the summer term, prior to starting Primary School. Sharon has worked in childcare for 14 1/2 years, both in Pre-school and nurseries, and holds a level 3 childcare qualification. She is currently thinking to update her professional development with a level 5 course.
Frequent trips to visit family in Leeds leaves Sharon with little free time, although she does enjoy baking when time allows.
Claire - Pre-school Assistant
We welcomed Claire to our team in February this year. Claire worked in Early Years for a number of years, gaining experience at various settings, including achieving her Diploma in Pre-school Practice. Recently she took time out of childcare to raise her own children, but feels that the time is right to come back to what she loves.
Claire lives in Catterick with her husband and 2 boys. She enjoys family time, going for walks and baking.
Kate - Pre-school Assistant
Kate is the newest member of Acorns, beginning her time with us at the beginning of March. Kate's most recent position was in an 'After School' role. Previous to this, she has worked in different Early Years Settings and began her Early Years Foundation Degree.
Kate lives in Ripon with her husband and 2 children, and is about to take on the added challenge of working alongside her own child, when her son starts Acorns. In her limited spare time Kate enjoys craft activities, such as knitting, cross stitch and crocheting.
Carol – Pre-School Assistant
Carol has a wealth of Early Years experience from her tome as manager at Nicky’s Pre-school in West Tanfield. She was instrumental in the re-launch of ‘Little Acorns’, which she runs on a weekly basis. Carol has lived in Masham for over 21 years. In her spare time Carol enjoys spending time with her 7 and ‘1/2’ grandchildren and exploring new countries with her husband, Kevin. She is heavily involved in the community, helping to coordinate the ‘Wednesday Welcome’ group, amongst others.
Heather - Trainee Pre-school Assistant
Heather has been involved with Acorns for a few years, taking an active role in the management committee. Before Christmas she decided to begin a new career in Childcare, enrolling on a Level 3 course and volunteering with us. Her position became permanent at the beginning of February this year.
Heather is local to the Masham area, living in Town with her husband and daughter. Heather is a keen runner and continues her healthy interests with a weekly fitness session.
